About Us
Muungano Environmental Resources Management Alliance (MERMA) is a registered Non-profit environmental organization operating in the following counties: Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Kilifi, and Tana River.
MERMA aims at empowering communities with the goal of promoting rehabilitation, conservation and management of natural resources for the provision of both ecological goods and services for sustainable development in the country.
We attain this through carrying out civic education, building strong partnerships and linkages between the governments, development partners and the communities.
The alliance is supported mainly by the members and membership is open to individuals, families, groups and corporate. In its approach in implementing projects MERMA works with various stakeholders which include Community Based Organizations, Self Help Groups, County Governments, National Government and development partners.

Main Objective
To empower the poor economically through sustainable utilization of natural resources and ecosystems for the benefit of both the present and the future generations.
Our Mission
To promote rehabilitation, conservation and management of natural resources for the provision of both ecological goods and services for sustainable development in the country.
Our Vision
Restoration of degraded farmlands, habitats and ecosystems to their former pristine state in the country.
Specific Objectives
- The advancement, exploitation and sustainable utilization of natural resources.
- The rehabilitation and conservation of natural environmental and its biodiversity.
- The enhancement of food production and improvement of the community livelihoods.
- To carry out civic education and sensitization to members of the public on the issues of sustainable utilization of natural resources, peace building, health, water and sanitization issues in the country.
- To provide the forum for interaction between its members, consideration and dissemination of information and expression of opinion relating in any manner to natural resources.
- To act as a body of umbrella for community based projects and organization involved in environmental management resources at the county level.
- Organize, acquire, utilize, make, publish or prepare films , photographs, articles, publications, exhibitions, lectures and seminars or undertake any other activities aimed at instilling interest in the sustainable management if natural resources.
- To establish branches in Kenya where necessary.
